Standing Firm in YOUR Faith: A Devotional/Study

If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all. -Isaiah 7:9

This Bible verse was first introduced to me at VBS two years ago. Even though I forgot it when I wanted to use it for a photo story on my AG blog, God let the words come flooding back to me when I decided to create this website. That verse has had me thinking a lot about faith.

So, I wrote this post for you guys about Standing Firm in YOUR Faith! Let’s get right to it.

Standing Firm in My Faith-2

11 Faith means being sure of the things we hope for. And faith means knowing that something is real even if we do not see it. People who lived in the past became famous because of faith.

~Hebrews 11:1-2 ICB

Take a moment to read Hebrews 11. The author of Hebrews is telling his audience to have faith in Jesus Christ as they make the decision to either stay Jewish or become Christians.

Hebrews 11 is giving examples of faith from throughout the Bible to follow. He also uses words like being sure (trust) and continuing (perseverance).

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

~2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV

Faith is about trusting that God is always there for you. Faith is about knowing that He is not walking in front of you, or beside you, but within you. As children of God, we have Christ in our hearts – let’s wear our hearts on our sleeves for all the world to see.

Faith is about perseverance. There are going to be times when your faith is tested, or even times when you are condemned like Hebrews 11:32-40 discusses.

36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
~Hebrews 10:36

In this translation (ICB), Hebrews 11 uses the word faith 30 times. There are 39 verses in Hebrews. The author is really stressing the point of faith so we can recognize the faith of others and shape our own faith.

And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

~Mark 11:22-24

Let’s move those mountains, girls (or guys)!

What are some other ways YOU stand firm in your faith?

A Light in the Darkness

Have you ever just felt like no one loves you?

First of all, that’s not true. John 3:16 says:

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, so that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

But sometimes, it can definitely feel like you are alone. Those times of grief, loss, depression, anxiety, those times are dark times. Think of a dark room: without light, you stumble, you trip, you fall. Without light, you can never get out of the dark room. But no one is alone.

in the beginning, i created this blog.

It was 7:00AM on a foggy January day. I was wide awake, contemplating things. I was thinking about something very important–that our actions count for eternity and that I wanted to do something meaningful with my life, something that would have an impact. So, I created this blog. It’s not exactly world-changing, but it’s a start. A small start, but a start.

I decided to make this blog open to other users because I couldn’t do this all by myself. I have God on my side, and hopefully some brilliant users someday too.

The verse I picked…“Those who do not stand firm in their faith will not stand at all.” Isaiah 7:9 …is one of my favorite verses. In this culture we are being raised in, everything is about you, and you, and you, and being popular, and being a celebrity, and drawing attention to yourself. We easily get distracted with all of our earthly things and lose our focus on God, and even begin to doubt the Bible. This verse tells us to stay focus on God, and believe in Him as a Whole, not Partly, or else we will fall. Think about it like this: if you stand on a firm foundation, you will stay upright. But if you stand on a cracked one, you will fall in an instant.

There are uncharted waters ahead, but God will rescue us to safety. His Mighty Right Hand will uphold us. So we should never be afraid.
