Don’t Give Up! (A Mini-Devotional) | Guest Post By Sarah Rhomberg

My grandparents have this “roller” tool for picking up fallen fruit, primarily apples and nuts. When I first saw it, I was fascinated! I loved the way it worked. And, I, along with my siblings, loved using it. Usually we didn’t like picking up fallen fruit, but the new device made it fun.

Fun, that it is, until we’d used it for a few days, until we’d each picked up 150+ apples and nuts. Then it became a chore. It was tiring. It was exhausting. Why? Because the “newness” and the excitement had worn off.

Sometimes it’s the same thing with our faith. We have moments in which we are so “on fire” for God. We love reading the Bible, prayer is the highlight of our day, and we can’t wait to tell others about God.

But sometimes, we get tired of praying without answers. Sometimes we just don’t want to pick up our Bibles. And Sometimes we fear telling others about what we believe.

When you feel like that, remember this verse!

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:1 (NIV)

Keep on spreading your faith, even if people make fun of you! Continue to pray, even if you don’t have an answer yet! And go read your Bible (Even when you’d rather do something else!) So that we, with Paul can say:

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

2. Timothy 4:7 (NIV)

Trust me – it’s worth it!

Standing Firm in YOUR Faith: A Devotional/Study

If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all. -Isaiah 7:9

This Bible verse was first introduced to me at VBS two years ago. Even though I forgot it when I wanted to use it for a photo story on my AG blog, God let the words come flooding back to me when I decided to create this website. That verse has had me thinking a lot about faith.

So, I wrote this post for you guys about Standing Firm in YOUR Faith! Let’s get right to it.

Standing Firm in My Faith-2

11 Faith means being sure of the things we hope for. And faith means knowing that something is real even if we do not see it. People who lived in the past became famous because of faith.

~Hebrews 11:1-2 ICB

Take a moment to read Hebrews 11. The author of Hebrews is telling his audience to have faith in Jesus Christ as they make the decision to either stay Jewish or become Christians.

Hebrews 11 is giving examples of faith from throughout the Bible to follow. He also uses words like being sure (trust) and continuing (perseverance).

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

~2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV

Faith is about trusting that God is always there for you. Faith is about knowing that He is not walking in front of you, or beside you, but within you. As children of God, we have Christ in our hearts – let’s wear our hearts on our sleeves for all the world to see.

Faith is about perseverance. There are going to be times when your faith is tested, or even times when you are condemned like Hebrews 11:32-40 discusses.

36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
~Hebrews 10:36

In this translation (ICB), Hebrews 11 uses the word faith 30 times. There are 39 verses in Hebrews. The author is really stressing the point of faith so we can recognize the faith of others and shape our own faith.

And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

~Mark 11:22-24

Let’s move those mountains, girls (or guys)!

What are some other ways YOU stand firm in your faith?
