Flexible + I Need Your Help!

Part 1 – Release

Part 2 – Flexible

Sorry this is late! I had ballet and school yesterday, and on Wednesday I was super busy with schoolwork and more dance!

Hey guys! Before we begin, I would like to thank everyone for your support for the giveaway! We’ve gotten a lot of entries and I’m super excited! I’m so impatient to find out who wins, I don’t think I can wait until February 3! We also are also at 60 followers now, so thank you so much!!

I mentioned in my post Release that my personal word of the year is Flexible, and I’m going to share with you today what that means to me!

flexible [flek-suh-buhl]
adjective

-capable of bending easily without breaking
-able to be easily modified to respond to altered circumstances or conditions.
-(of a person) ready and able to change so as to adapt to different circumstances.

Google Dictionary

I’m a dancer, so being flexible is important. If you can do the splits on the ground, you’ll be able to leap into the air beautifully onstage. You can bend your body to perform better, and strengthen your muscles to help you hold flexible positions longer.

But the word flexible doesn’t only apply to dancers, contortionists, gymnasts, and more, it also applies to personality!

12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.  I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:12-13 English Standard Version (ESV)

I like things to be nice, even, clear. I set a lot of deadlines for myself, and get really stressed out if I don’t finish them. (I thought I was going to be able to film my Christmas AGSM by December 21, but I only finished it on New Years’ Day!)

So, this year, I’m trying to be more flexible with my schedule, “deadlines”, and accept changes in my life as part of God’s plan.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:2 ESV

Last year I faced a lot of changes and a lot of new things, and this year might not bring such drastic alterations to my life. But it surely will bring changes.

In a way, being flexible kind of means being strong, too: “capable of bending easily without breaking.” Even though this definition is probably more for material things, I think it can also apply to life! If you are flexible, you’ll be able to stand more firm in your faith.

To keep this series going, I need your help! What’s YOUR word of the year? If you share it in the comments, it might be featured in the next part of the series! Thank you so much for your help, guys! God bless!

PS: We’re no longer accepting guest posts and new authors for the time being, but submissions will reopen in spring.

One Year 💕 {GIVEAWAY!}

One year of devotionals. Of posting and then not posting. Of users and followers coming and going. Of stories. One year of growing closer to God and sharing God’s word through this blog.

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

-Psalm 118:24 ESV

You may be wondering why I’m posting on a Monday. Actually you probably aren’t because I haven’t officially announced my Wednesday blogging schedule. 😛 Oh well.

Anyways, this is the reason why: Today is the one-year blogaversiary of Standing Firm in My Faith, and we also hit 50 followers a few days ago!

I cannot believe how much support that I’ve gotten through this blog, even when it was inactive. Ever since my cringey, messy, all-over-the-place, weirdly dramatic first post, I’ve grown as a blogger and in my faith!

In honor of this blog’s 1-year blogaversiary and 50-followers milestone, I’m hosting a GIVEAWAY!!!

And since the giveaway is completely virtual, I won’t need your address so anyone can enter! Here’s what the prize includes:

An awesome package of 5 DIFFERENT PHONE AND DESKTOP WALLPAPERS designed by yours truly!

A GUEST POST on Standing Firm in My Faith!

And, if you choose, a COMPLETE BLOG REDESIGN tailored to your liking!

Release

Every year, my family picks a word for the new year. This year, we picked a word that has a lot of meaning and I really want to strive towards this year: release.

 Release [ri-leese]
verb (used with object),re·leased, re·leas·ing.
    1. to free from confinement, bondage, obligation, pain, etc.; let go
    2. to free from anything that restrains, fastens, etc.
Last year, was full of many hardships and pain. I was diagnosed with type one diabetes, my grandfather died, and I had a lot of anxiety. So this year, my family is making a resolution to let go from the pain and hurt and worry, let go of old problems and arguments, and let go of 2018.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:9

Letting go makes room for new things. Sometimes those new things can be hard, but sometimes they can be the most abundant blessings that you never dared dream of. In 2019, ask God to help you Take the Plunge and release your old self.

Ecclesiastes 3:6 (MSG)

When we become Christians, the blood of Jesus washes away our sins. We are made new in the eyes of Jesus! All you have to do to become a Christian is say this prayer aloud with me:

Dear Lord Jesus, come into my heart. Forgive me of my sin. Wash me and cleanse me. Set me free. Release me, Jesus. Jesus, thank You that You died for me. I believe that You have risen from the dead and that You’re coming back again for me. Fill me with the Holy Spirit. Give me a passion for the lost, a hunger for the things of God and a holy boldness to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. I’m saved; I’m born again, I’m forgiven and I’m on my way to Heaven because I have Jesus in my heart.

Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

-Romans 10:9-10

Thank you for reading, and have a lovely day! God is on your side in 2019! Stay tuned for a post on my personal word of the year, flexible. This trusting God in 2019 has become sort of a series!

PS Thank you for 50 followers! It means so much to me that you all like my devotionals. I’m working on something awesome for our 1-year blogaversiary + 50 followers celebration! Make sure to check back on Monday, the 21st of January, because that’s when SFMF will be turning 1!

PPS Thank you to Bigskybuckeye for the inspiration for this post! In the comments, your shared your words for 2019 and that prompted me to write about mine!

Take the Plunge: A Devotional

5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”

Revelation 21:5

It’s the new year. 2019 will be full of blessings, hardships, joys, and challenges alike, but God’s got you this year!

10 days into 2019, it may seem like you’re dipping your feet into the waters of new things. You’ve probably written down resolutions and goals and have an idea of who you want to be this year, but don’t know how to dive in and start making this year the best one yet.

Light (Mini Devotional)

Imagine you are in a cave. A dark, shadowy, rocky cave, filled with razor-sharp rocks, endless pools, and calm plains alike. Some spots in the cave are easy to make it through – others, though, you struggle to reach the end of.

Then, imagine that you find a flashlight. The moment you accept the fact that it’s impossible to get through the cave on your own, the flashlight turns on and floods the cave with light and understanding.

Those jagged, sharp rocks? Turns out, in the light, they were just little pebbles. Those dark pools of swirling waters? When the light hits them, you realize they were just puddles.

Life is like that cave, and God is like that light. When you put your trust in God and pray to Him, then His Light can shine on any situation!

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path”. -Psalm 119:105
“…the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined.” – Matthew 4:16
Have a blessed day! What are some ways YOU remember to ask for God’s light in prayer? Are you participating in the Letters With A Purpose challenge?

Standing Firm in YOUR Faith: A Devotional/Study

If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all. -Isaiah 7:9

This Bible verse was first introduced to me at VBS two years ago. Even though I forgot it when I wanted to use it for a photo story on my AG blog, God let the words come flooding back to me when I decided to create this website. That verse has had me thinking a lot about faith.

So, I wrote this post for you guys about Standing Firm in YOUR Faith! Let’s get right to it.

Standing Firm in My Faith-2

11 Faith means being sure of the things we hope for. And faith means knowing that something is real even if we do not see it. People who lived in the past became famous because of faith.

~Hebrews 11:1-2 ICB

Take a moment to read Hebrews 11. The author of Hebrews is telling his audience to have faith in Jesus Christ as they make the decision to either stay Jewish or become Christians.

Hebrews 11 is giving examples of faith from throughout the Bible to follow. He also uses words like being sure (trust) and continuing (perseverance).

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

~2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV

Faith is about trusting that God is always there for you. Faith is about knowing that He is not walking in front of you, or beside you, but within you. As children of God, we have Christ in our hearts – let’s wear our hearts on our sleeves for all the world to see.

Faith is about perseverance. There are going to be times when your faith is tested, or even times when you are condemned like Hebrews 11:32-40 discusses.

36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
~Hebrews 10:36

In this translation (ICB), Hebrews 11 uses the word faith 30 times. There are 39 verses in Hebrews. The author is really stressing the point of faith so we can recognize the faith of others and shape our own faith.

And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

~Mark 11:22-24

Let’s move those mountains, girls (or guys)!

What are some other ways YOU stand firm in your faith?
